Tim Mayfield
I started creating art in 1977, after seeing Star Wars. I asked my mom for Star Wars toys and she went out and got me a block of clay and said “There, now you can make your own!” So, I did.
Years later I made and sold figurative sculptures in San Francisco galleries until I returned to San Diego in 2012 and learned enameling from my father. A retired law enforcement officer, he became a prolific artist and passed down his knowledge of the craft.
I find enameling immensely challenging and creative. After 10 years of practice I’m only scratching the surface of what’s possible.
My inspiration comes from living in San Diego and being outdoors, exploring the many beaches or hiking in North County.
